14.3m Nigerians abuse drugs — UNODC

The first Report on Drug Use in Nigeria, launched yesterday in Abuja by the Federal Government has revealed that 14.3million, which represents 14.4% of Nigerians between the ages of 15and 64, are drug users and one in every four of them is a woman.

The survey which was conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, and supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, further showed that past years prevalence of any drug use in Nigeria estimated that 10.6m use cannabis, 4.6m use opioids, 2.4m use cough syrup, 481,000m use tranquillizers and sedatives while 238,000 are on amphetamines and prescription stimulants.
