2016 Budget Debate: The budget is dead on arrival- Senator Abaribe

Senators have commenced debate on the 2016 appropriation bill proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The debate kicked-off at the plenary after the adoption of the President’s request to amend the budget.

Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP-Abia State) noted that the budget was predicated on $38 per barrel of crude oil which now sells at $28.
“Therefore, this budget is dead on arrival,” he said, urging the Presidency to “withdraw the budget and go back to the drawing board.”

He further added that, “the budget is unique in that the Finance Minister has not come to brief the Senate-this is change in the wrong direction”
