4-year not enough, Bassa people assure Buhari of total support in 2019

The Bassa people paid a visit to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari, 5 November 2018. They went to discuss issues bothering the Bassa people as well as pledge alliance t him in the 2019 general elections. The rulers of Bassa people were in attendance as well as the spokesperson, Bako Dogwo.

Bako Dogwo kicked off the discussion by pointing out perceived marginalization of his people in government, stating that this occurrence is not only peculiar to the Buhari-led administration but also Jonathan-led administration. He lamented that Bassa people are not fully represented in his government,”they have not had their fair share of both Federal and State appointments under previous and present government despite their new medical strength and enormous contributions to national development.”

He expounded strengths and achievements of Bassa People, compelling government to consider them in any federal appointment going forward.

He commended and sang praises of Mr President on his achievements during his first tenure assuring him not to be perturbed about the 2019 general elections.

“We like to assure the president that there is no cause for you to worry at all because we believe you have maximized the opportunity of your first tenure. You have done so well and we think you deserve to be re-elected.”

“We share in the view that four years is certainly not enough for the task of rebuilding a country that has been bastardized over time.”

“On our part, Mr President, we want to assure you that we are going to mobilize the over 12 million Bassa people across Nigeria to vote for your re-election in 2019.”

President Buhari rounded up the discussion by appreciating them for their promised support and backing in the forthcoming election despite their perceived feeling of marginalization.
