Aisha Buhari receives items donated to IDPs by Abia Women

The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Wednesday in Abuja received items donated to Internally Displaced Persons by Abia Women.

Mrs Buhari received the items at the Presidential Villa, when the wife of Abia Governor, Nkechi Ikpeazu and a delegation of Abia Women, visited her.

The items donated were foodstuff, made in Abia shoes, clothing, utensils, mattresses and beddings, house provisions and other consumables.

She commended the governor`s wife and Abia women for making the donation to IDPs affected by the conflict in the northeast.

She further thanked the wife governor for her acts of charity through her pet project, the Vicar Hope Foundation.

“Your act of charity is laudable and a demonstration of Nigeria’s unity in diversity. I have observed that among the items donated are some products made in Abia.

“I wish to use this opportunity to commend the resilience and patriotic spirit of the manufacturers of these products who have demonstrated that such items manufactured in Nigeria can help revive our economic fortunes.’’

Aisha said that significant numbers of women were holding political offices in Abia, adding that this was a clear indication that Abia women played a major role in the politics of the state.

She thanked the wife of the first military Head of State, Mrs Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi for being part of the visit.

Earlier, Abia Governor’s wife described the carnage in the North Eastern part of the country as disheartening.

“It presents us an opportunity to show love and care for our Nigerian brothers and sisters affected by the crisis. We are in Abuja on love mission.

“It also gives us the chance to emulate Mrs Buhari for always donating to IDPs and to prove to the insurgents that their actions will unite Nigerians more irrespective of our differences’’, she said.

The governor’s wife commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his effort towards ending activities of insurgents in the north east.

“Abia women are praying for him and for our troops that God will continue to strengthen them and give them the means and courage to bring this terrible national experience to stop’’, she said.

She added that the donation was in-line with the charge Mrs Buhari gave wives of governors early this year to reach out and support IDPs.

She said the Abia Government was rolling out strategies that would enable the victims of terrorism and natural disasters from the north, living in the state to start a new live.

She added that through her pet project, she had built houses for widows and the indigent and had promoted women empowerment and participation in politics across the state.

She said she had also ensured increased healthcare and welfare for the less privileged women and children through her pet project.

She added that she was building a Sickle-cell Clinic and Cancer Diagnostic Centre in Umuahia to replicate Mrs Buhari’s pet project, “Future Assured’’ programme, in the state.

Meanwhile, Mrs Aguiyi-Ironsi commended Mrs Buhari for her commitment to improving the health of women and children in the country.

She expressed happiness that women were now occupying rightful positions in the society, in spite of challenges, adding that parents should support and develop their children in the nation`s interest. (NAN)
