The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Abubakar Rasheed has said that the long-delayed ASUU strike may be called off anytime soon.
The Secretary revealed this on Wednesday in Abuja while defending the commission’s 2021 budget. Rasheed stated that a crucial negotiation was being held with ASUU with hopes that the strike would be called off within the week.

He stated that tertiary institutions in the country, especially Federal Universities have been greatly affected as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. “All the universities are yet to resume operations eight-month after the commencement of the Covid-19 pandemic because of the ongoing ASUU strike.
“A crucial negotiation just started taking place with ASUU for which when I move out from this budget defense room I will head straight to the venue to see how we can end the strike hopefully today or tomorrow,” he said.
He added that the intervention of the Senate towards bringing an end to the strike has helped to a great extent.
