Boko Haram: Closure of UNIMAID signals defeat of Nigerian Military ― Rep. Muhammad Gudaji
House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to urgently put extraordinary measures in place to ensure the restoration of security and tranquillity at the University of Maiduguri, in Borno State.
The resolution of the House followed a motion moved by Muhammed Monguno (APC Borno) and 15 others in plenary on Thursday.
In the lead debate, Mongonu noted that the school has become a soft target for the terrorist sect recently, pointing to the continuous loss of lives to suicide bombing.
He said: “Between January 2016 and June 25, 2017, the University Community has been hit with over 6 suicide bombers that have resulted in the death 19 students and staff.
“Also of serious concern is the continuous loss of some of the best hands to the current insecurity on the campus, notably late Prof. Aliyu Mani who was killed along with two other students when the school was attacked by two suicide bombers”.
Contributing to the motion, Hon. Muhammad Gudaji representing Kazaure/Roni/Gwiwa/Yankwashi federal constituency of Jigawa state also urged the government take proactive measure to avert closure of the university as it will signal defeat of the nation’s military.
“The issue of closure of the university should not arise because if you close the university you show that our is incapable to protect the learning institution in that area”
