Northern Christian leaders to Buhari: Stop killing of innocent Nigerians

Leaders of Christian faith in Northern Nigeria have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop increasing killings of people in norther part of the nation.

The leaders met with the president at the State House, Abuja on Thursday July 5.

Led by Rev. Yakubu Pam, the cleric said majority of people being killed in ethno-religious strifes in the region are innocent.

Hundreds of lives have been lost in clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the region in the past months in the middle-belt. Casualties have been high in Benue, Plateau and Taraba.

Efforts of government to contain the attacks have been unproductive. And, many citizens have blamed the government of being clueless and insensitive.

“We cried out to Mr President over the killings of innocent Nigerians, especially here in Northern Nigerians, particularly Christians. We came with deep hearts, very heavy hearts to talk to Mr. President.

“Every other person that had any other thing that they wanted to do before had left it because we wanted to be here in our number. Being here today is to say to him if there is a way these killings will be stopped in our region, in northern Nigeria, because most of the people being killed are innocent people.

“Mr President has said he would look into all that we have presented to him, and we have hope, that as the father of the nation, he would do something about it.

“My message to my people at home is that we shall be patient to hear from Mr. President.”
