Foreign Affairs Minister: Buhari’s one year in office, a huge success

The Minister of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari’s first one year has scored huge success in all sectors of the economy.

Geoffrey Onyeama said within a year, the President had laid a solid foundation for a new Nigeria, adding that more is underway, even as Nigeria is no longer where it was 12 months ago.

Onyeama addressed the media at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja during a media dialogue marking the first year anniversary of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure in office. He reserved special praise for the president, recounting the many achievements by his administration, which he mentioned to include areas of insurgency and security, economy fixing, good governance, anti-corruption and cordial foreign policy outreach.

He said the President had justified the confidence Nigerians reposed in him by implementing sound economic policies to revamp the economy and restore investors’ confidence – the latter which he said was achieved by numerous bilateral trade agreements signed during the president’s foreign trips to France, China and the United Arab Emirates.

In his usual proclivity, Geoffrey Onyeama defended the incessant foreign trips embarked by the president, stating that Nigerians are greatly reaping the dividends of these trips and more efficacy is underway from these foreign travels.

He said: “President Buhari has no one second to rest while on foreign trips. It is not some trip for leisure – so this is a sacrifice Nigerians must acknowledge.”
