Abducted Chibok Girls: Buhari’s supporters block #BringBackOurGirls demonstrators

Police in their numbers barricaded the road linking the Unity Fountain roundabout to the Presidential Villa disrupting the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) protest today.

What was meant to be a peaceful rally demanding for the release of Chibok girls abducted over 2 years ago by Boko Haram, took a new twist when an anti-BBOG group dubbed #WithBuhariWeStand also converged at the Villa Bridge describing the BBOG group as a distraction to the government.

The group argued that Buhari’s administration is doing all its best to rescue the girls and should be given a breathing space to think of possible method to adopt in rescuing the girls.

The coordinator of the group, Jonathan Adegoke states that “governments operate in secrecy and making every move public will jeopardize the efforts being put in place to rescue the girls from the hands of their captors”.

However, Oby Ekwesilli the coordinator of the BBOG Group reacting to the actions of opposing group described their actions as unfortunate. Calling “hirelings who are out to rubbish the legitimate call for the rescue of the abducted Chibok Girls”.

The fracas extended for hours with exchange of verbal war between members of the two groups. Nonetheless, physical violence was not recorded during the melee, no government official came out to address the groups.
