#EndSARS: How Police violently tried to dispatch us at Dutse Makaranta

The Peaceful #EndSARS protest which began on Tuesday around 7.30 a.m at Police Signboard, Dutse-makaranta, Abuja with activists blocking entry points to the station resulted into a mayhem Protesters seeking an end to police brutality and extrajudicial killings on had allegedly burnt down a police station around in the area living it in ruins.

According to eyewitness the large crowd stayed in place for almost two hours blasting hip hop music before policemen swooped on them with tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd. Reacting to the incident, the FCT police command through its Public Relations Officer, Marram Yusuf, denied reports trending on social media that its personnel were responsible for the shooting of five protesters at Dutse-Alhaji area of Abuja.

She said the shooting was a result of a violent clash between the EndSARS and ProSARS protesters in the area on Tuesday. Yusuf said the social media information is misleading, but added that “the command had professionally restored calm in the area”. According to her, “during the unfortunate incident, the protesters suddenly went berserk, leaving two persons dead and one injured”. The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police has enjoined officers and men of the command to remain professional in the discharge of their duties.

Yusuf said the command condemned in the destruction of public and private property by hoodlums, especially the burning of a police outpost at Dutse-Makaranta. However, she said the CP had called on FCT residents to desist from violence of all forms and embrace peace.
