A Civil Society Organization (CSO) has called on the Federal Government to seize the victimization of those involved in the peaceful #EndSARS protest which was later hijacked by hoodlums causing major destruction in some parts of the country.
The call was made on Thursday during a press briefing organized by Citizen Action for Good Governance, premised on the ‘Aftermath of #EndSARS protest and the need for National Reconciliation and Reconstruction.’ As part of the measures to savor the deteriorating situation the crisis has caused the country, the National Coordinator of the organization, Nazir Galadanchi while briefing pressmen urged the government not to victimize those involved in the protest in order not to compound the issues at hand.
The Coordinator also pleaded with the Nigerian government to speedily address the demands of the youth as earlier promised and to also involve them in the process of addressing their demands through genuine and well-known CSOs.
Galadanchi said those who were affected by the destruction caused by perpetrators of violence during the protest should be reached and their needs met in order for them to bounce back to business which should be part of the reconstruction and reconciliation process, also a way of tackling the recession.
He further advised the government to properly engage the United Kingdom (UK) Parliament by providing graphic details of what transpired before, during, and after the protest across the nation. Speaking on fake news and its impact, the CSO tasked the government to enlighten Nigerians on how to identify fake news to avoid future mayhem.
It also warned the government to desist from not carrying the youth along in terms of decision making and policy formulation, rather get their input on how best to help realize their dreams and aspirations. In a breakdown of the aftermath of the protest, the CSO opined that the sudden twist in the peaceful protest was orchestrated by fake news which was promoted on social media.
