Ex SEC DG, Mounir Gwarzo discharged and acquitted of fraud charges
The suspended Director General of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Mounir Gwarzo has been discharged and acquitted of fraud charges preferred against him by the Independent and Corrupt Practices and Other Related Commission (ICPC).
Gwarzo alongside Zakawani Garba, a commissioner in SEC was arraigned on five count charges bothering on criminal breach of trust.
The duo had filed a no case submission in February 2019, after the prosecution called five witnesses.
Ruling on a no-case submission on Tuesday, the trial judge, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, held that the ICPC did not prove any of the essential elements of the offence against the defendants and that there is no evidence to prove that they committed the crime.
Consequently, they were discharged and acquitted.
