EXCLUSIVE: 20 injured, N10m cattle lost in ghastly accident along Bauchi-Jos road

Not fewer than 25 sheep worth about N10m died in an accident along Bauchi-Jos road.

OAK TV who was at the scene, gathered from eyewitnesses that the accident was as a result of a reckless driver who was on high speed and crashed into the flock of sheep.

According to residents of the area, it is custom for the Herdsmen (Fulani) to drop leaves along the road while grazing their animal which serves as caution signs for oncoming vehicles indicating that there are animals ahead. By this, the drivers are made to slow down.

However, the driver of the ill-fated vehicle, in full speed, drove off the road into the pedestrian path and ran through the flock killing at least 25 of them.

The driver, who also had passengers in his car, fled the scene of the accident before he could be caught up with. The passengers also took to their heels for fear of perceived jungle justice.

The herdsmen were able to slaughter seven out of the flock in order for it to be considered fit for consumption, while five survived.

Residents of the area said similar accidents have occurred in time past. They therefore made an appeal to the federal government to find a solution in order to curb the incessant menace.
