FAAC deadlock: Buhari attempts to settle NNPC and governors

The standoff which has stalled revenue sharing among the three tiers of government for the months of May and June, 2018 could be responsible for salary delays in some states of the Federation.

Chairman of the Nigerian Governors forum and Governor of Zamfara State Abdulaziz Yari was on Thursday at the Aso Rock villa to seek Presidential intervention in the resolution of the impasse.

Governor Yari who was accompanied to the villa by his counterparts in Jigawa and Kebbi States held separate meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief of Staff to the President Abba Kyari.

Speaking to state House correspondents after the meeting, the Governors forum chairman said a significant milestone has been achieved in efforts to reconcile figures ahead of the next FAAC meeting

Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun is optimistic that the President’s intervention will settle the dust raised over the FAAC/NNPC controversy.

Last week Wednesday, the meeting of the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee FAAC again ended in deadlock following reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC failed to remit all revenue accrued within the period.
