Finally, Buhari opens up on defections: ‘It barely made a dent on our super structure ‘

President Muhammadu Buhari has restated claims of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that his administration is delivering the party’s promises to Nigerians. This is even as he challenged the APC to brace up for 2019 elections. The president stated these at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday August 30, while addressing National Executive Committee of the party. The NEC met to deliberate on the method the APC would adopt for its primaries sequel to the 2019 poll.

The NEC, comprising the president, his vice, Yemi Osinbajo, all governors elected of the party’s platform, including the party’s National Working Committee. Buhari said any political party that wants its candidates must put its internal dynamics right and must work as a team. He said the meeting was to enable the party take major decisions to take to get excellent performance at the polls next year. He congratulated the current leadership of the party, led by Adams Oshiomhole.

He called on the party to put its house together and ensure the party get stronger and remain a party to beat. “We will give our country the type of leadership that will improve the quality of lives of the people. We will continue to secure the lives of the people, fight graft and pursue the economy in a way that job can be provided for our youth and give them a future. “We will fulfill all the promises we have made to Nigerians. We are fulfilling them, and we will continue to serve with heart and might to build a nation where peace and prosperity shall reign.

“And, as we stand at the treshhold of party primaries, I urge all and sundry to ensure that we play the game according to the rules. Let us come out with free, fair and credible primaries which will be a precursor to free, fair and credible elections next year. “Let us shine the light through our primaries so that the rest of the find the way. Our primaries must be in complete compliance with the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended, the Electoral Act, and above all the constitution of our great party, the APC,” the president said.
