IPOB: Produce Kanu or go to jail, court orders Sen. Abaribe, other sureties
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that Senator Abaribe and two others be served with an order of the court to produce the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu or show cause, why the bail granted to him, should not be forfeited, otherwise, risk going to prison
The judge gave the order, following an objection raised by counsel to Abaribe, Mr. Chukwuma Umeh that his client was not issued any summon. According to him, there are certain processes that ought to be carried out before a surety can be brought to court to show cause.
Counsel to the Federal Government, Shuaibu Labaran urged the court to dismiss the prayers of the defense. He stated that the resumed trial was fixed for the sureties to give reasons why the bail granted to the IPOB leader who remains elusive should not be revoked.
Kanu was admitted to bail on April 25, 2017, and the Chairman, South East Senate caucus, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, a Jewish High Chief Priest, Immanuu-El Shalom and a Chartered Accountant, Tochukwu Uchendu signed his bail bond.
The matter has been adjourned to June 26 for continuation
