NAFDAC destroys N75M Unwholesome Regulated Drugs
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) destroyed drugs worth N75 million at the dumpsite along Kuchi Yako road, Kuje, Abuja on Thursday.
The Acting Director-General of the agency, Yetunde Oni said the drugs destruction exercise is carried out because counterfeit, expired and substandard drugs were confiscated by NAFDAC.
Her words: “Today, we witness the destruction of various categories of regulated products as one of the strategies employed by NAFDAC to prevent the circulation of fake, counterfeit medicines and unwholesome regulated products. These products are worth over N75M.”
The Acting DG also mentioned that some products were voluntarily submitted to NAFDAC by various governmental and non-governmental organisations while others were mopped up from open market via enforcement activities and surveillance systems of NAFDAC.
