Former Super Eagles striker, Isaac Promise is dead. Promise died at the age of 31.

Promise was the captain of the Eagles squad that won silver in the Beijing Olympics’.

Reacting to his death, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, said the federation was saddened by the death of Promise.

They wrote on twitter: “We are sad to hear of the sudden demise of former @NGSuperEagles forward, Isaac Promise. Promise was captain of the Beijing Olympics’ Eagles squad that won silver. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. May his soul Rest In Peace, Amen,” it said on its twitter handle.

The Federation in a statement also explained that Promise was born on 2 December 1987. He last played for Austin Bold FC in the USL Championship. He was also the captain of the Nigerian football team  that won the silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

He played professionally  mostly in Turkey for 14 seasons. He scored a total of 77 club goals during his career.

Promise went on trials with Nigerian second division side Grays International. He attracted the  attention of football clubs in Europe. He went on trials with Manchester United alongside John Obi Mikel, but found the trials unsuccessful.

He was linked with Dutch outfit Feyenoord Rotterdam and eventually signed for Turkcell Süper Lig club Genclerbirligi in a three-year deal in August 2005.

In the Turkcell Super League 2006-07 season, Promise scored 12 goals. He doubled the number of his total goals for Gençlerbirliği.

In July 2008, Isaac signed  a 4-year deal with Trabzonspor.
