Jailed Senator Dariye co-sponsors motion from prison

Senator representing Plateau Central, Senator Joshua Dariye, who is currently serving a ten-year jail term, co-sponsored a motion today at Senate.

The motion titled, ” Senseless killing of a Briton and the abduction of three others in a Holiday Resort in Kaduna State by Armed Bandits,” was presented by Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, at plenary.

Joshua Dariye who is still in prison was listed as the 89 co-sponsor of the 108 senators sponsoring the motion.

Recall that the former governor of Plateau State was sentenced by the court to 14 years in prison by FCT High Court Gudu on Tuesday, 12th, June 2018 for fraud and misappropriation of funds.

However, the Court of Appeal in Abuja on November 16, 2018, reduced the jail term to 10 years, just as the appeal court had said that while the conviction was right, the former governor should have been jailed for 10 years.

The court reduced the sentence to 10 years for criminal breach of trust while a similar conviction for diversion of N1. 62 billion ecological funds were reduced from two years to one year.
