Lawmaker representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency, Gombe State, Hon Aishatu Dukku, has appealed to the Federal Government to approve a federal polytechnic in her constituency.

She said the constituecy is devoid of any major federal presence, while its development has been very low.

Addressing a House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Institution in Abuja on Wednesday, the lawmaker, who won her election on the platform of ruling platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) said locating a federal polytechnic in the constituency would, among others, promote small and scale businesses in the area.

She said: “It will generate employment and encourage small and medium scale businesses to sprout and maintained. It will interest the chairman and other members that in Dukku, we already have a well-built structure that can confortably accommodate the polytechnic, with ample and verse land for future development. Dukku, historically is the root of Gombe Emirate, a highly agrarian community…

She said there is “little or no development” because there is no federal presence in the constituency.

The establishment of a Federal Polytechnic, she furthered, would no doubt bring the much needed development in the area.
