Nigeria’s Civil Defence Corps set to deploy 60,000 Personnel, Sniffer Dogs 2015 Elections
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said it would deploy 60,000 of its officers and men to ensure the security of Nigerians and government installations before, during and after the general elections. The Corps’ Deputy Commandant-General in charge of operations, Evans Ewurum said this while speaking in Abuja on the corps’ preparedness for the February polls. He said there was no need to employ more personnel for NSCDC to be able to effectively carry out its responsibilities, insisting that it has the manpower for the job. The Deputy Commandant-General said that apart from 25 dogs that could detect IEDs, the corps would also put its 500 sniffer dogs to use during the polls while efforts were being made to procure more from the United States of America before the elections.
