2017 Budget Debate: NSCDC not recruiting yet — CG Abdullahi — Oak TV
The Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Abdullahi Muhammadu, has called on Nigerians to discountenance speculations that the Corps was recruiting and doing replacement secretly.
The NSCDC boss made this assertion on Wednesday during the corps budget defense before the house of representatives committee on Interior.
When quizzed on the issue of recruitment rumours by the committee chairman, Jagaba Adams, the commander general rubbished such claims and urged Nigerians to beware of job scammers.
“I want to use this opportunity to clarify this issue of recruitment — Civil Defence is not recruiting!”
“Sir, there are job scammers outside, defrauders defrauding people, collecting money from people that we are recruiting. Not only Civil Defence, many agencies
“I want to put it on record here that we’ve arrested some, they were charged to court and it is on record that on Monday last week, they were convicted to seven years imprisonment, about 10 of them.
“So we are not recruiting! If we are recruiting, it will be advertised in the dailies of Nigeria and everybody will know… So I want to send this message to Nigerians, that we are not recruiting!”
He, however, said that the NSCDC had applied to the Federal Government for approval to enable the Agency employ, but that it had yet to get the go-ahead to employ.
Also, the NSCDC Commandant General sought the approval of the House for a N2bn appropriation to enable the outfit carry out recruitment in 2017 as well as accommodate a backlog of arrears for 30,000 recently promoted personnel.
He ascribed the numerous challenges of the NSCDC to lack of funds as a result of government’s funding pattern. The CG noted that the 2016 allocation of N5.2 billion was so meager that the agency has been turned into a huge debtor to various business interests it deals with.
He pointed out that NSCDC is currently having accommodation challenges in at least 25 states.
On Internally Generated Revenue, Abdullahi informed the House that its IGR stands at N217million which has since been lodged in the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
