Police arraigns Abuja bank robbery suspects on five count charge
The FCT Police Command Friday arraigned the five suspects involved in the robbery of a First Bank In Mpape area of Abuja on a five-count charge bordering on Armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms.
They were arraigned before Justice Ajoke Adepoju of the High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The suspects were charged with five counts bordering on armed robbery, possession and use of illegal ammunition, all punishable under section 16 of the Robbery and Firearm Special Provision Act.
Recall that the Ehizo Larry, 30; Princewill Obinna, 24; Elijah David, 19; Timothy, 21; and Earnest Ewim, 29 were arrested for an armed robbery which took place on December 28, 2019, at a First Bank branch in Mpape, Abuja
FCT Police Command counsel, James Idachaba stated that even though they were ready for the instant commencement of trial, he asked the court to give both parties a week for the commencement of the trial.
The prosecution counsel added that seven witnesses have been listed for the trial, “the case is a very easy one, the suspects were caught in the act he added”.
He also asked the court to remand all suspects in prison pending the start of the trial.
Defendant counsel David Ochimana said that they will be bringing the necessary applications for bail; he also reminded the court that the suspects are all innocent until proven guilty
Meanwhile, the second defendant’s counsel J. Enabosi said, “we have just been filed a copy of the charge, and we need adequate time to respond”.
Judge Adepoju ordered that the suspects be remanded in a Correctional Centre, the matter was adjourned to Friday, 13th March for the commencement of definite hearing
