Rep. unravels NNPC’s secret operations

Federal lawmaker representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has revealed covert activities at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

Jibrin said at the House plenary on Tuesday July 10 that most of the corporation’s transactions are conducted in secrecy.

The lawmaker was speaking on the backdrop of a new committee being proposed by the House to examine the activities of the NNPC.

“If you really want to achieve something out of this investigation, you need to tear open the issue of production, volume of production. I personally have always believed that there is a bit of manipulation in that. Every year, we project 2.3 million barrels, but there has never ben a year that we are able to produce up to two million barrels.

“It’s always been 1.6 to 1.8 million barrels. And, when you have situation like this, when NNPC is unable to remit money, they will come and tell you they are not even producing up to 1.5 million barrels because they can bring the issue of disruption of pipelines etc, and even sometimes, maybe its internal sabotage.”
