Rivers: Tribunal denies movement of materials to Abuja
The Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja has refused an application by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, to transfer electoral materials to Abuja for inspection.
In his ruling, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, said granting the request by APC counsel, Akin Olujimi (SAN), would amount to variation of its order of June 11 compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant access to electoral materials for forensic examination.
Justice Pindiga also refused an application by Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), through his counsel, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN), for stay of the order on inspection pending the determination of his appeal at the Appeal Court challenging the order.
The judge said the application was deemed abandoned because Ukala failed to move it when it was mentioned in court.
He also refused APC’s application seeking to stop any further preliminary objections until the conclusion of the trial, saying the application has been overtaken by events.
