More Senators oppose review of sequence of election

More senators on Thursday April 19 kicked against calls for change in sequence of 2019 elections through a bill seeking to review the Electoral Act.

Senator represent Osun Central, Olusola Adeyeye, said “the spirit of the law is to give the electoral body total independence.”

Speaking at the Senate Chamber, the lawmaker said the effort would collide with the powers of election umpire in the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

“I rise to state categorically that I totally oppose this bill,” he said.

The senator said only INEC is vested with the power to choose election dates.

Similarly, Sen Mao Ohuabunwa (Abia North Senatorial District) spoke in same direction.
