Tragedy behind the scene of the new 8 Universities
NUC Standing Committee on Private Universities, (SCOPO), Prof. Akaneren Essien said the Commission recognises the efforts of some NUC Committees who died in Dana Air Crash on their way to supervise four out of the 8 universities being given provisional license in June 2012.
He said this on Tuesday at the National Universities Commission Headquarters, Abuja during the presentation of provisional licenses to eight New Private Universities in Nigeria by the Commission.
Essien said the staff who died in the crash were all committees of SCOPO who supervised the Universities. He said they died while they were on official duty to supervise four out of the eight universities being issued certificates.
The Committees who were involved in the crash in 2012 were: Celestine Onwuliri, the Chairman, Standing Committee on Private Universities, Secretary; Mahmud Dukawa , Deputy Director, Treasury; Maimuna Shuaibu, Deputy Director, Open Distance Education; Sonny Ehioghae, Deputy Director (Establishment & Staff Matters) and Chinwe Obi, Deputy Director, Facilities & Infrastructure.
Essien said the commission appreciates their services and their thoughts are with the families the demised members left behind.
