Winding up 2017 budget in March causing panic in MDAs, says Sen. Ali
Mopping up 2017 budget in March this year will cause crisis in ministries, agencies and departments of government, Sen. Atai Ali, (Kogi East Senatorial District ) has said.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, March 28, the lawmaker argued that allowing the budget to end in March contravenes the Appropriation Act, which provides that national budget should run for 12 months from the day it was signed into law.
2017 Appropriation Bill was signed into law in May 2017 by President Muhammdu Buhari.
The senator said some MDAs had just received funds to implement some capital projects in the budget, and that there would be no time to execute such projects, many of which he said had not been awarded, if the budget circle ends in March.
He therefore suggested that the budget be allowed to end by the end of May.
