Yobe Tragedy: Senate leader cries for help over market fire outbreak
The Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan (APC, Yobe Central) on Tuesday solicited the intervention of the Senate in providing succor for victims of the fire disaster that occurred at the Central Market Nguru, Yobe State.
The market which is located in the Senate Leader’s senatorial zone was gutted by fire on Saturday 10th November, 2017.
According to reports, the fire consumed 149 shops and was the 18th incident in 20 years at the central market.
The Senate Leader while speaking on his motion said over 60% of the market was razed down in the inferno.
He said: “The adverse effects of the aftermath of the inferno have caused economic activity to be grounded completely in the market; the affected traders and shop owners are suffering untold hardships due to the disaster.
“The victims of this disaster require urgent intervention to reconstruct and rehabilitate their shops and other necessary intervention”, the Senator pleaded.
The Senate in its resolution urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently provide necessary interventions to the affected traders, and extend aid to victims in other markets across the country that has suffered similar fate.
